We in a group of twenty students left for Kalka mail. Our Mathematics teacher Rajdeep Singh was our supervisor. We reached Kalka at 10 a.m. There is a meter gauge line from
Kalka to Shimla. It is a hilly tract of sixty kilometers. It takes eight hours to reach there. The train moves on the zig zag lines very slowly. The train moving on this line has only 8 or 9 compartments. The speed is so slow that one can get on or get down of a moving train. The surroundings present beautiful scenery. The tall trees look majestic.
As we reach near Shimla, we can feel the difference in temperature. The disturbing heat of the plains of Delhi was left far behind and we had wrapped ourselves in blanket and put on woolen clothes. The journey from Kalka to Shimla was itself was a wonderful experience.
In Shimla we had our accommodation in a grand hotel located on the Dalhousie road. This hotel is very popular among the tourists. Due to its quality service it is known as Tourist Paradise. Next morning, we hired a bus and under the supervision of our teacher we visited all the worth-seeing places in and around Shimla. We visited the Mall, the Lower Bazaar, Jakhu Hill and the famous Kalibani temple at Shimla. We also went to Kufri and Naldera. These places are so beautiful that they have a lasting impression on the visitors.
Shimla is one of the most beautiful hill stations in India. It is therefore the British had made it the summer capital of the Government of India. The Governor’s Lodge has been converted into the Centre of Advanced Studies. Shimla is now the capital of Himachal Pradesh. Jakhu is a mountain peak surrounded by tall trees. It is through steep flight that we can reach to Jakhu. It is said that Lord Hanuman had taken Sanjeevni for Lakshman from Jakhu. Throughout we can see monkeys in great number. Near Mall Road there is a skating ground. Many people enjoy skating here. At a distance of ten kilometers from here, there is a snow skating ring at Kufri.
After four days, we had to come back. How the time passed we could not realise. The places were so beautiful that we did not wish to go back. However, the journey was very interesting and enjoying. We wish to visit it every summer.
